So Many Memories - Pre-order 11/7
Loren Schoenberg and his Jazz Orchestra featuring Kate Kortum & Warren Wolf
Release date November 7th
In a rare convergence of history, artistry, and discovery, saxophonist, bandleader, and scholar Loren Schoenberg leads a powerhouse big band in a recording unlike any other: the long-lost Eddie Sauter arrangements for Red Norvo, performed at Juilliard.
These remarkable scores, originally crafted for vibraphonist Red Norvo in the late swing and early modernist eras, had never been documented on record. Dormant on paper for decades, the charts reveal Sauter’s singular imagination—his daring harmonies, unexpected voicings, and forward-looking rhythmic ideas that helped to push jazz arranging into new territory during the 1930s and 1940s.
Schoenberg, a noted champion of rediscovering hidden gems from jazz’s past, assembled a hand-picked ensemble of Juilliard musicians and guest artists to breathe life into these pages. The result is not only a tribute to Sauter’s genius and Norvo’s pivotal role in jazz history, but also a thrilling celebration of how freshly this music speaks in the 21st century.
This LP is pressed on high-quality 180g vinyl, containing 10 of the tracks from the album, housed in a classic standard sleeve.
